football-pools2Sportech the owners of The Football Pools has called off the sale to Burlywood Capital the investment firm run by Mark Blandford for £97.2 million following what Sportech says  that Burlywood was unable to conclude the transaction set out within their proposal.

The company said it would “continue to focus on maximising opportunities for the business”.

Football Pools which has been running for 93 years had at the height of its popularity 10 million registered players but now has some 300,000. Sportech has had some success in revitalising the Football Pools with sales last year reaching £33.8 million with a profit of £15.2 million.

There has been no comment from Burlywood Capital on the failed deal.
