Adelson may give way to online gambling in Pennsylvania in order to fight VGT expansion
Is Sheldon Adelson having a problem in Pennsylvania deciding on which he wants to focus on opposing most online gambling or Video Gaming Terminals (VGT)?
The casino billionaire has made no secret of his hat towards online gambling over recent years and famously said he would spend whatever it takes to stop the expansion of online gambling. However Pennsylvania could be causing his a few headaches as the state are looking to introduce both VGT and online gambling in an effort to plug an ever increasing hole in the state budget deficit.
Lawmakers in the state want to introduce VGTs into airports, cafes, restaurants and even truck stops and this is getting the billionaire quite mad. He sees it as a serious attack on slot revenues for his casino Sands Bethlehem and he has the support of eight other casino operators except for Penn National who are involved with VGTs.
But with online gambling also gaining pace in the state where does Adelson focus his attention? Already he has invested $1 million into lobbying against VGTs in Pennsylvania and may have to give way to online gambling to this.
It seems certain Pennsylvania will have to introduce at least one of these evils as Adelson sees it but which one is he going to give way on?
