One of the most vocal voices in the race for their city to have an integrated Resort in Japan that Mayor of Wakayama Masahiro Obana came under pressure for his views on having a casino resort in the city.

Masahiro Obana wants to have an Integrated Resort for foreigners only but at present the Japanese government have not indicated if Integrated Resorts in the country will be foreign focused or open to nationals.

At a recent meeting of the Wakayama City Council the Mayor was asked what he would do if the Integrated Resorts were open to local nationals, his reply was to cancel the process for applying for a resort.

This then brought accusations that he believed the resort would have a negative impact on locals and so meaning they were actually bad for the country.

More pressure came from the Wakayama Bar Association which issued a statement stating the establishment of an IR within the city would cause gambling addiction, the corruption of youth, and the possibility of organized crime.

It seems with increasing pressure from all angles Wakayama may now be leaving the race for one of the Integrated Resort licenses.
