The state senator from Nevada, Becky Harris, has been appointed as the first-ever woman chairperson to head the Nevada Gaming Control Board of the United States, ever since its inception nearly six decades ago. The governor of the state of Nevada, Brian Sandoval, made the announcement for Harris’s appointment on Friday last week. Harris is going to succeed A.G. Burnett, the erstwhile chairperson of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, who resigned last month in a bid to pursue his legal practice in the private sector.

In his statement to the local press, governor Sandoval remarked that Becky has not only earnestly served the local community as a reputed and proficient elected official but also helped promote innovation in the gaming industry to propel Nevada towards greater popularity and growth of the state’s most successful sector. He further reiterated his faith in Harris’s integrity and distinction by showing his immense confidence in her abilities.

The press release also quoted a statement from Becky Harris saying that it is a great responsibility to handle one of the premier regulatory systems in the entire world. Harris is currently employed at the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States in the US as the treasurer. A profile released for Becky Harris back in 2014 by a journal called Las Vegas review stated that she holds the membership of  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. However, the church is known to shun all activities associated with gambling and the consumption of alcohol.

Created as a regulatory body by the statute back in 1955, the Gaming Control Board in Nevada is responsible for maintaining the solidarity of the state’s gaming industry through adequate licensing, enforcement of regulations and laws, and investigations of non-compliant parties. The Nevada Gaming Control Board is not only limited to the state of Nevada but is also known to influence foreign regions such as the Asia-Pacific casino sector.

Recently, the Nevada Gaming Control Board was instrumental in investigating the ‘three acts of fraudulence’ allegation that was made against Kazuo Okada by the conglomerate founded by him called Universal Entertainment Corp. The Gaming Control Board was involved in the investigation given the fact that both the affiliated companies including Universal Entertainment, Aruze Gaming America Inc, and Aruze USA Inc. and the Japanese gaming entrepreneur Kazuo Okada hold several gaming licenses in the state of Nevada.
