The UKs National Health Service (NHS) has today opened the first ever gambling addiction clinic for children. According to the Gambling Commission there are some 55,000 children in the UK suffering from gambling related issues.

Based in London but according to officials could be rolled out across the UK the clinic will aim to treat those in the age group of 13 to 25.

Simon Stevens, the NHS England chief executive, said: “This action shows just how seriously the NHS takes the threat of gambling addiction, even in young people.

“The links between problem gambling and stress, depression and mental health problems are growing and there are too many stories of lives lost and families destroyed.”

It is understood that a new levy on gambling companies will be made to fund the rollout of 14 new clinics  across the UK.
