UKGC Reports NO Increase in Gambling During Lockdown

The latest data published by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has shown that the figures show that during the COVID-19 lockdown during March and April people gambled less.

The data from UK’s biggest operators combined with YouGov‘s ongoing ‘COVID-19 tracker’ compiled by the UKGC shows that only 0.2% of adults questioned who had never gambled before said they had taken up gambling during the lockdown period.

Operators said they recorded a drop of 5% in player activity for March and April which is certain to be down to the lack of any sporting activity.

Interestingly the report also shows that 75% of gamblers said that they had not increased in anymore gambling than normal for the period of lockdown.

The only noticeable increase came from gamblers switching to other products because of the lack of any sporting activity, the report showed that 42% of gamblers tried new online gambling products from operators.
