Thai Minister On The Offensive Against Online Gambling

Over twenty online operators arrested by police recently

Buddhipongse Punnakanta the Digital Economy and Society Minister for Thailand has said that his government are looking for ways to curb the growing presence of online gambling in the country.

The minister met with both broadcasters and internet service providers to look at ways of solving the problem of online gambling this week.

He said that recently the police had arrested over 20 groups of online gambling operators but the rise is still ongoing.

 “The ministry has realised that online gambling is having an adverse impact on the economy and society, so we have discussed ways of suppressing this with the National Police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda and Technology Crime Suppression Division director Pol General Suwat Chaengyodsuk,” he said.

He went on to say: “People are encouraged to send screenshots or the URL of online gambling ads or websites to the DESMonitor Facebook page. Officials will submit this as evidence to police for investigation, and the ministry will close the website after receiving police approval.”
