UK gaming operator The Rank Group who operate Grosvenor Casinos & Mecca Bingo has announced its third quarter figures showing a fall of 72% drop in net gaming revenues compared to the same period last year.

The announcement came as no surprise given that UK casinos have been closed since early January 2021 because of the national lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Online gaming revenues also took a dip of 3% compared to its second quarter, it did register a rise compared to Q3 last year, showing a rise of for its Stride business up 7%, Mecca Digital up 4% and Yo Bingo doing best of all up 10%. However its Grosvenor Digital business fell 2% in revenues.

With all UK casino venues opening on 17th May the operator said it was preparing to welcome its customers back.

John O’Reilly the Chief Executive of Rank said on the report: “We have ended Q3 broadly where we expected to be and are now very focused on the reopening of our UK venues from 17 May alongside continuing to drive digital NGR growth,” he went on to say, “Our business has inevitably been heavily impacted by the pandemic but, with the strong support and dedication of our colleagues, we are now very much looking forward to reopening our casino and bingo venues, welcoming back our customers and providing the great entertainment and omni-channel service in a COVID safe environment we know they enjoy.

“We continue to make good progress on the transformation 2.0 plans which will drive the next phase of growth for the group.”
