New Athens Resort Open By 2026

The new casino resort on the old Hellenikon airport in Athens will be completed and open by 2026 said the casino company that has won the rights to develop the resort. US company Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment said in a statement that the resort could open in 2025 but likely to be 2026.
Ray Pineault, Mohegan’s the interim CEO said: “Right now, we anticipate that upon conclusion of the contractual negotiation process, permitting and design will take approximately 12 to 18 months.”
The project would then move into construction phase with its Greek construction partner GEK Terna, initially the owning company of the land is developed Lamda who will also develop shopping malls, hotels and housing.
Total cost of the whole development including the casino resort is estimated at €8 billion and Lamda won the tender process after lengthy opposition but once the new Greek government came into power in 2019 the process was given to Lamda.
Pineault said on the new resort: “We anticipate the resort will grow international tourism in the Attica region by at least 10%,” he concluded by saying. “It will be a facility that’s unforeseen anywhere else in all of Europe.”
