Crown Resorts woes continue as another Australian government has announced an inquiry into the suitability of the casino operator to hold a license.
This time the Victorian government has stated it will hold a royal commission into Crown Resorts to see if the company are able to uphold the standards required to maintain their license.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said in a statement. ‘This is about making sure that those who hold a casino licence in Victoria uphold the highest standards of probity and integrity – and that they’re accountable for their actions.’
The casino operator that failed to win a license in its new resort in Sydney following a lengthy investigation that found Crown Resorts to be lacking in corporate governance and last week heard that the Western Australian government will hold an inquiry there into Crowns Perth casino suitability, things are only getting worse for the company whose major owner is James Packer.
Victorian Gaming Minister Melissa Horne said on the Sydney report: ‘The findings in there were so severe that the most appropriate action to protect Victorian interests was the establishment of a royal commission,’ she went on to say, ‘The Royal Commission will establish the facts and the Government and the VCGLR will take any necessary action at the conclusion of the investigation. We will not tolerate illegal behaviour in our gaming industry.’
