Casino Landmark to Close End of Year

The Casino Landmark is scheduled to cease operations at 11:59 PM on December 30, 2025, the venue, part of the New Orient Landmark Hotel and has been a popular gaming venue in the region’s gaming sector but the announcement from SJM Resorts Ltd said it is following recent developments on satellite casinos.

The closure of Casino Landmark is a direct result of regulatory shifts that have reshaped the gaming landscape in Macau. Since January 2023, new gaming concessions have been introduced, leading to the phasing out of legacy arrangements for satellite casinos. These changes aim to streamline operations and enhance the overall integrity of the gaming sector.

For customers holding chips, deposits, or cash rebates at Casino Landmark, the announcement has significant implications. SJM Resorts has stated that any unredeemed amounts can be transferred to other self-promoted casinos operated by the company starting from December 31, 2025.

The closure of Casino Landmark will affect approximately 1,169 employees. In a commitment to the government, Macau’s casino operators, including SJM Resorts, have pledged to absorb these staff members into their core operations.

The closure of Casino Landmark is not an isolated incident; it is part of a larger trend involving the gradual shutdown of several satellite venues under SJM Holdings’ licensing. Since July, venues such as Casino Grandview, Casino Grand Emperor Palace, and Casino Legend Palace have also ceased operations.

With the closure of Casino Landmark, Macau will no longer have any operational satellite gaming venues. This marks the end of an era for these establishments, which have played a vital role in the region’s gaming ecosystem. The focus is now shifting towards core properties, with SJM Resorts investing in enhancing its main casinos.

In light of the closures, SJM Resorts has announced plans to invest HKD 1.75 billion (approximately US$224.8 million) to acquire the L’Arc Hotel, which houses the Casino L’Arc satellite. This acquisition is part of a strategy to consolidate operations and create a “core peninsula cluster” of properties that includes Casino Lisboa and the Grand Lisboa gaming resort.
