Decision Day For Massachusetts Sports Betting

The long drawn out process of Massachusetts legalising sports betting reaches a head Thursday 9^th June with the last possible opportunity of hammering out a compromise between the House of Representatives and Senate.

Both parties have their own idea of what sports betting will look like, such as the House would allow betting on college sports but the Senate says no, the Senate want to restrict advertising, marketing and the use of credit cards to place bets but the House would allow all.

So Thursday is really the last opportunity to discuss and negotiate before the legislative session ends on the 31^st July. After that any sports betting legislation would certainly be pushed into 2023.

The chances seem slim as also the tax rates differ greatly with the Senate wanting a higher bracket with in-person betting taxed at 20% but the House want 12.5% and online sports betting taxed at 35% by Senate but the House want to tax at 15%.

The negotiations begin at 2pm but supporters of sports betting believe the impasse at present is too great and sports betting will be kicked into 2023.
