The transformed casino, now called Starlight Casino Edmonton, is located on Entrance #9 in the West Edmonton Mall. The mall, which calls itself “North America’s Largest Shopping Mall,” is home to 600 retailers, two restaurants, ten entertainment centers, a 13-screen movie theatre, four sea lions and 70 F&B outlets.
The new casino occupies a floor space of 120,000 sq feet which is inclusive of multiple restaurants like CHOW Lucky Noodle Bar, MATCH Eatery & Public House, The Buffet and ATLAS Steak + Fish. In addition to this is the casino’s very own new dining center – Halley’s Club. Insiders at Gateway say the new restaurant will be vintage-era, retro Vegas themed and will host classic cabaret shows to entertain guests.
The renovation started when the management of the Palace Casino felt the need to upgrade their gaming services. The entire project – which includes a complete re-design of the facilities and re-branding of the Palace Casino – cost $57 million. The new gaming center is all set to offer a plethora of games under one roof. The management also plans on increasing manpower to 500, up from the existing 200, to improve player experience in the casino.
The grand re-opening, which was celebrated on September 26th, 2018, was attended by the who’s who of Canada. Don Iveson (Mayor of Edmonton), Politician Deron Bilous (Alberta New Democratic Party), AGLC COO Niaz Nejad and Gateway Casinos & Entertainment CEO Tony Santo commemorated the event. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the presiding team made an announcement that Starlight Casino Edmonton has planned a charitable partnership with The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and plans to offer a large portion of the proceeds it earns between September 26th and October 31st to finance treatment for terminally ill children.
The extended celebrations which have been organized for this evening will see invitees trying their luck at some of the games that Starlight Casino Edmonton plans to offer. Cash and prizes worth $20,000 are up for grabs. Gateway has also organized music performances by celebrated names like Matt Day and Campfire Heroes, in addition to hiring Elvis and his band of showgirls to serenade the guests as they enjoy the event.
This $57 million transformation of the Palace Casino into the Starlight Casino Edmonton and the additional creation of jobs is a testament to how lucrative the Canadian gambling industry really is. The management at the Gateway Casinos & Entertainment plans on infusing further funds to help improve the Edmonton economy.
