Entain Boss Positive on Less Intrusive Affordability Checks

Entain boss Jette Nygaard-Andersen who has just celebrated the companies improved yearly performance has commented on the recent Betting and Gaming Councils annual meeting that took place last year regarding Gambling Minister Paul Scully’s remarks on affordability checks.

During the meeting the Minister said that it was not the job of government or regulators to tell people how much they can afford to spend on gambling, hinting that the long awaited UK Gambling White Paper may not be as intrusive as feared from operators.

Indeed the Minister went on to say that it was preferred financial risk checks that would be “frictionless”. Nygaard-Andersen responded to these comments by saying, “They want to talk about frictionless checks instead of affordability checks and what comes with that, which I think is all positive.”

In response to the much delayed and speculated on White Paper that is over two years in the waiting Nygaard-Andersen said that she hoped for everyone involved it would be published in the first quarter of this year but could very well not appear till the second quarter.

The UK government will next year be entering into a general election year and many observers believe that the White Paper has the possibility of not seeing the light of day under this current government and then could go into consultation again under new government or the current incumbent.
