Florida Sports Betting Switched Off

At one stage it was thought the Seminole Tribe of Florida was going to buck the order to close its sports betting business in the state but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruling on Friday upheld the previous lower courts decision for the tribe to shutdown the sports betting app while they appeal the original ruling, and so the tribe have now shut down all sports betting activity on their Hard Rock Sportsbook app.

The ruling previously agreed with the complainant that the Tribe was breaking federal law on offering gambling services off tribal land, however the state of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis arranged a gambling compact with the tribe over the next thirty years that would allow them to offer exclusively sports betting along with casino expansion in return for the tribe paying some $30 billion in taxes over the next thirty years.

However that was put to the test earlier in court and the state and tribe have now been told to arrange a more federal binding agreement that does not encroach on tribal borders.

At present the tribe have said they will appeal but are not allowed to operate and sports betting of their land.
