Hackers Attack Casino Company & Demand Ransom In Cryptocurrency
A casino operator has been reportedly been hit by a ransomware attack and the hackers have been able to shutdown the operators entire poker machine operations in both its casinos.
According to reports in Tasmania The Federal Group run tow casinos within its group of hotels, those being Wrest Point and Country Club casinos and reports say that the attack on the company has rendered all poker machines un-usable since the 3rd April.
Local news agencies say that the hackers are demanding a ransom to be paid in cryptocurrency, although no amount has been released by the company.
Apparently the hackers tried to infiltrate the companies hotel systems also but it is understood these have now been protected by IT security staff, however there are fears that sensitive information on credit cards and customer details may have been accessed by the hackers.
The Australian Cyber Security Centre has been informed by the company and work is now underway by private IT security companies to restore those systems hit by the attack, however it is not clear if and when they will be back online.
At present The Federal Group are refusing to pay any ransom to have their poker systems back online although it has been more than 10 days without any progress in returning control back to the company.
