The Times Newspaper has done an exclusive article covering the illegal activity in Italy on cafes taking bets on football matches even thou current restrictions by the government ban all betting.

Italy normally allows cafes with licenses to take bets on football and sporting events along with selling lottery tickets and operating slot machines.

However currently only certain lottery games are allowed under current government rules and all cafes are restricted to selling drinks only and their license to offer gambling is suspended, but that is not stopping numerous cafes from offering bets on football matches in countries such as Danish, German, South Korean, Costa Rican, Belarusian and Estonian leagues.

The Italian government have set up a 3,000 task force to combat illegal gambling such as this but it is virtually impossible to stamp out when an industry in the country is valued at some €19 billion in revenue back in 2019.
