Japanese City Expresses Concern Over Development Of Casino
According to a report published by a local news outlet, it was noted that as many as 94% of the citizens of the city of Yokohama in Japan reacted negatively while giving their opinion about the idea of bringing up a casino in the area. The subject of a possible casino in the city came up as a part of the local government’s general survey on their public policy.
As per the data submitted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in Japan, the urban center of Yokohama also ranks second on the list of the largest Japanese cities in terms of population. The survey had been conducted by the local government from May 14 to June 22 this year. As such, the local concern of the people regarding the development of a casino in the city was quite apparent in the final survey reports.
According to a press statement made by the famous brokerage Nomura in Japan, the city of Yokohama had been identified as one of the best places in the country to establish a new integrated casino resort.
The major focus of the aforementioned survey was to collect the opinion of both individuals as well as major community groups in the city regarding the government’s four-year plan (mid-term). The document included details of all the public policy options that could be adopted within the period starting 2018 and ending in 2021. The survey was conducted and administered by the policy division in Yokohama.
As per the information retrieved by the local news outlet, there were as many as 830 individuals and entities that submitted their views on all the various public policy concerns addressed in the survey. That being said, as many as 2,129 individual opinions were retrieved via the aforementioned survey.
Also, it might be interesting to note that nearly 20% of the said opinions on the public policy survey were focused on the prospect of developing a casino resort, which in the context of Japan is referred to as an Integrated Resort or IR.
According to a previous news report, the mayor of the city of Yokohama, Fumiko Hayashi had at one point expressed his full-blown support to the idea of hosting a new integrated casino resort in the country. However, he had turned surprisingly neutral when the topic came up prior to the mayoral election in January 2017.
