Luxor CasinoIt seems like the poker supply is Las Vegas is not in a good trend anymore and the supply is getting thinner and thinner. One more nine table poker room casino in Nevada is closing its door. The news as reported first by journalist John Mehaffey that Las Vegas Luxor casino resort is due to closes its door on June 18. Thus Las Vegas will lose another poker room after the closure of the MGM owned card rooms followed by Monte Carlo’s move to close the shutter of its poker room last month. Monte Carlo is also an MGM property and now the news comes for Luxor casino. Earlier the three table poker room at Hard Rock closed down in March.

Thus overall a total of twenty two poker rooms have been closed down in Las Vegas in last six years, leaving Sin City which had about three dozen rooms. With this closure of Luxor’s poker room Las Vegas total number of poker rooms will be reduced to 18 and about 260 tables. There was a time in 2007 which was the boom time for poker in Nevada when there were 26 Las Vegas strip poker rooms with a combined 296 tables.

This move by Luxor to close its poker room comes at a time when there is little or no growth in poker business in Las Vegas. As per the revenue figures of over 12 months prior to May 1 2017 Strip area poker rooms generated a revenue of $77.6 million from cash games which is virtually the same as compared to the last year. MGM officials informed all the casino employees about their decision of closure of the room on Friday. MGM operates other poker rooms at the Bellagio, Aria, Excalibur and Mandalay bay resorts.

Michael Lawton, Senior Research Analyst for the Nevada Gaming Control Board, told Card Player “The proliferation of casinos across the United States has decreased the need for players to travel to Nevada to play poker,” “At this point the consensus is that traditional poker will not experience any significant growth without a national interactive component to support growth in traditional poker by introducing new players to the game.”

Still MGM will have strong poker presence in Las Vegas after June 18 as it has 24 tables at poker room at Aria and 37 tables at Bellagio.
