Macau 2022 GGR Expected To Be Half Of 2019

In an announcement late last week from the Macau government sating that it forecast that gross gaming revenues (GGR) for the World’s largest gambling hub would only reach MOP130 billion (US$16.2 billion) in 2022 which represents more than half of the revenues prior to the Covid pandemic in 2019.

In 2019 GGR reached MOP292.5 billion but over the last 18 months the pandemic and following outbreaks of the virus have severely disrupted business in Macau and now the government have put the estimate on the continued fallout at just MOP130 billion for the following year.

In the announcement the government said: that Macau would see “great uncertainty” in business conditions and would continue to face a fiscal deficit.

The statement went on to say, “As the impact of the novel coronavirus… continues, the economic conditions for the Macau SAR are expected to remain challenging in 2022 and a recovery from it will take time.”
