Macau 2022 Target Not Possible

The possibility of Macau hitting their target of casinos tendering in 2022 seems unlikely given the current time frame casino observers believe. Over the last year operators had been asking for an extension to the latest round of tendering for the 6 licenses to operate in Macau given the major disruption by COVID-19 pandemic.

However city leaders still believe that the aim for 2022 is still viable even thou they are not going to have their new laws that would bring all concessions in line for the same timeframe by mid-2021 till at least the third quarter of 2021.

That would then only allow for a few months to install the new Legislative Assembly for new members before the tendering begins.

One gaming consultant told the iGaming Post, “lawmakers had hoped that the new process for 2022 would run smoothly and if the pandemic had not hit then it may have happened but it just is not possible now given the time and availability of lawmakers battling the damage COVID-19 has had on the industry and society in general.”
