Macau June Revenues Down 97%
The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau reported for June that the casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) dropped by 97% to $89.7 million for the month compared to the same period in 2019.
With the COVID-19 pandemic heavily effecting business in Macau figures show that even month on month numbers dropped by 59.4% compared to May this year and May was down 93% on the previous years figures.
All makes very depressing reading for operators in the world’s biggest gambling hub as the global pandemic still hits business hard.
With Hong Kong now extending its quarantine to August 7th meaning anyone wanting to travel to Macau has to do 14 days quarantine in Macau and then another 14 days when arriving back in Hong Kong!
In total for the year revenues are down 77.4% compared to the same period in 2019, with the extended quarantine rules numbers are not expected to improve for casino operators in Macau through July, but hopes that August will pick up are high once the quarantine rules are lifted.
