September’s performance follows a broader pattern of year-over-year gains throughout 2025, a period during which Nebraska’s casino sector added significant capacity. The market now comprises five operating casinos, following the August 2025 opening of Lake Mac Casino, which joined established properties including WarHorse Casino Lincoln, WarHorse Casino Omaha, Grand Island Casino & Resort, and Harrah’s Columbus.
Slot machines continue to serve as the primary revenue driver for the state’s racetrack casinos, with table games and retail sports betting contributing a smaller but growing share of total receipts. Operators have also broadened their offerings with sportsbooks, expanded hotel facilities, and entertainment amenities as properties compete for patrons within their regional catchment areas.
Nebraska imposes a 20% tax on gross gaming revenue at its licensed racetrack casinos. Of that amount, 70% is directed to the state’s Property Tax Credit Cash Fund, with the remainder allocated among counties, cities, the Nebraska horse racing industry, and problem gambling programs. The steady monthly gains in casino revenue have translated into correspondingly higher tax receipts, providing an increasingly meaningful supplement to state and local budgets.
The September results also arrive amid a competitive landscape in the upper Midwest. Neighboring Iowa’s casinos have long drawn cross-border traffic from eastern Nebraska’s population centers, and operators in the Omaha and Lincoln markets have positioned their properties to retain spending that previously flowed across state lines.
