New York may soon join the elite rank of states legalizing and offering sports betting in the US come mid-2019. Cashing in on the potential pan-state legalization is the Turning Stone Resort Casino, the flagship casino of the Oneida Indian Nation (OIN), a federally-recognized tribe of the Oneida people.

Come mid-2019, Turning Stone Resort Casino plans to partner with renowned casino service operators Caesars Entertainment to open a branch in New York. Named “The Lounge with Caesars Sports,” the partnership will be the very first Caesar’s property in Upstate New York and will offer players in-person sports betting facilities, along with other games like poker, slots and more. Outside of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, The Lounge with Caesars Sports is touted to be the biggest Caesar’s property in America.

At the moment, Turning Stone already has a property set aside for the new casino, replete with facilities, amenities and state-of-the-art gaming technology. The only thing pending for the property to commence operations is regulatory approval from the National Indian Gaming Commission.

Legally speaking, sports betting is legal in New York. However, to offer sports betting facilities in New York, sports books have to be physically located in one of the state’s four non-Indian commercial casinos. The Turning Stone-Caesars partnership falls outside this legal purview. With sports betting still pending legalization expansion in New York, the operators of The Lounge are now playing a waiting game.

Luckily, the bill asking for the expansion of sports betting legalization has already been introduced to the Senate in May 2018 and discussions are underway. There is much hope that sports betting will be legalized across the state in a few months and operators will be allowed to set up casinos without restrictions.

When asked to comment on the upcoming partnership with Caesars Entertainment, Ray Halbritter, CEO of Oneida Indian Nation Enterprises had this to say, “When it comes to sports betting, Caesars is in a class of its own. We are pleased to be joining forces with this world-renowned gaming leader. Like Oneida Nation Enterprises, Caesars has built its business on exceptional service, as well as a dedication to constant innovation. These shared values create the perfect synergy for a meaningful long-term partnership.”

In addition to The Lounge, Oneida Indian Nation has plans to open more casinos. It’s next few ventures include the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, the Point Place Casino in Bridgeport and the Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango, all of which are set to open doors in 2019.
