New Jersey Online date could be delayed

The New Jersey Gaming Enforcement Division may delay the launch of online gambling in the state if it looks like there are too many problems following the soft launch on the 21st November.

Online gambling is slated to start for real on the 26th November following a five day trial period from the 21st, however should the trial period bring up problems and not run as smoothly as hoped the authorities may look at extending the trial period further.

A select group of state online players will test drive the soft launch, with 8 hours of play in a 24 hour period in rotation on all those operators currently licensed to run online gambling. Currently PartyPokerNJ.com, Betfair’s Let’sPlayNJ.com and Borgata.com are all inviting players to sign up now and trial their sites come 21st November.

There are still many suppliers and operators awaiting their license approval, with the Gaming Enforcement Division expected to announce more Friday 15th November.

A spokesperson for the New Jersey Gaming Enforcement Division has warned that all operators will be under scrutiny during the trial period and authorities will have no problem extending the launch date if need be.

“My staff will continually assess the progress of each platform provider before allowing them to open gaming to the general public on Nov. 26,” added DEG Director David Rebuck said. “The soft opening will be used to demonstrate to the division that all systems perform as required under the stress of live gaming and that operational and revenue reporting controls are effective.”
