Ninety Seven Illegal Gambling Sites Closed In Macau

Authorities in Macau have reported that with the aid of local police and internet companies have managed to shut down a total of 97 illegal online gambling sites in the first eight months of 2020.

The latest report from the Macau government’s Policy Address 2021, said that in total they had identified 125 illegal operations aimed at tourists to Macau and other areas, however because they were based overseas they were not able to block all of them.

In the report it says that overall police had handled 256 gambling related crimes in the first eight months of the year, which is a decline from 2019 of 81.8%. In the previous year police along with other agencies had managed to close a total of 177 illegal operations.

The report also mentioned that this year police and other local law enforcement agencies had worked with overseas internet service providers to fight illegal online gambling sites instead of issuing formal closure complaint demands against those sites. It went on to say that the positive effect of this helped the police in their continuing fight against illicit gambling.
