Bergen_County_SealNew Jersey lawmakers are to consider on Thursday 12th December whether Bergen County should be allowed to open a casino, the first of its kind outside of Atlantic City.

The Assembly Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee will discuss and explore bill AJR11 on the prospects for gaming in Bergen County. The committee will evaluate the impact of recently enacted casino gaming legislation and research whether gaming should expand beyond Atlantic City for the first time in the state’s history.

State Senator Ray Lesniak says a casino in North Jersey could stem the outflow of revenues to casinos in New York and Jeff Gural the Chairman of the Meadowlands Racetrack says that a casino in the north of the state could generate over $350 million a year in revenues.

However some believe that a new casino in the north could damage the prospects of south state Atlantic City casinos.
