North Carolina Decides Today on Sports Betting

House Bill 347 allowing for sports betting in North Carolina could become reality today as the final vote in the House will send it to Governor Roy Cooper to sign off into law.

Tuesday saw both the House of Representatives and the Senate pass changes in tax to the bill with a 67-42 in favour vote.

HB 347 which will legalise both mobile and land based sports betting will now have an 18% tax rate on gross gaming revenues and allow bets made on professional sports, college sports, eSports, and the Olympic Games. It is estimated that in the first year of operation revenues for the state will hit $22 million and by 2027 will top $100 million.

Sports Betting was so close in 2022 but failed at the final hurdle but supporters are confident that by the start of next year sports betting will be a reality in North Carolina and become the 37th state to join the ever growing legalised activity.

The Governor has already indicated he is in support of the bill and so with the vote today there will be nothing stopping it.
