The revenue generated from sports betting in June reached $74.95 million, marking a 46% increase year-over-year. The rise can be attributed to a higher win rate, with operators achieving a 12.8% hold, the highest recorded in 2025. This performance not only surpassed last June’s hold of 9.7% but also positioned June as one of the most profitable months for operators since September 2024.
Ohio’s sports betting market has also translated into significant tax revenue for the state. In June alone, operators contributed $15.3 million in taxes, pushing the year-to-date total past $90 million.
A closer examination of the betting landscape reveals that online sportsbooks accounted for the majority of the revenue, generating $74.9 million of the total. The online handle reached $567.4 million, while retail sportsbooks contributed $18.9 million in wagers, reflecting a 34% month-over-month increase.
Interestingly, promotional spending by online operators saw a decline, dropping by over $3 million from May to June, totalling $17.2 million. This reduction in promotional expenses indicates a shift in strategy as operators focus on optimizing profitability rather than relying heavily on promotions to attract bettors.
The competitive nature of Ohio’s sports betting market is evident in the performance of various operators. FanDuel maintained its dominance in the market, leading with a handle of $196.8 million and generating $29.8 million in revenue. Despite a decrease in revenue compared to May.
DraftKings also demonstrated consistent growth, surpassing $20 million in revenue for the sixth time in 2025, with a total of $23.1 million from a handle of $173.9 million. The operator’s hold of 13.2%.
In third place, bet365 reported a handle of $57.7 million and revenue of $5.9 million. BetMGM followed closely with $5.3 million in revenue from a handle of $40.1 million. Fanatics Sportsbook rounded out the top five, achieving a handle of $20.9 million and nearly doubling Caesars’ revenue with a 19.1% hold.
