Over Forty-Six million U.S. Citizens will Place NFL Bets this Season

A recent online study has revealed a staggering 18% of the United States population will wager on an NFL fixture at some stage in the upcoming season. Thesurvey, conducted by market research group Morning Consult, vetted over 2,000 individuals over a three-day period last month. The result analysis infers that a colossal 46.6m Americans will engage in NFL betting activity between now and spring next year, representing a 3% uplift on last year’s comparative figure.

More than half of the U.S adult population can now legally bet within their own jurisdiction, with a further five states establishing a native sportsbook marketplace since the beginning of the 21/22 NFL campaign. A substantial eighteen out of the twenty-two states who play host to NFL franchises have the capability to facilitate sports wagering.

Encouragingly, the increase in participation hasn’t diluted awareness of gambling safety tools, with betting operators alleging that 92% of their player database are conscious of harm prevention measures in place. Furthermore, it’s believed that almost 90% of active bettors feel it’s important to visit fully regulated online and retail sportsbooks, a number which has undoubtedly grown in tandem with sweeping legalization across the states.

The NFL season kicks off today with two giants clashing horns, as defending Superbowl champions Los Angeles Rams entertain the Buffalo Bills in California. The Bills alongside Florida’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the two most heavily backed sides to take the Superbowl LVII crown in February. NFL’s showpiece event will be hosted in Arizona, the first time a state which permits legal sports betting will stage the Superbowl.
