Pennsylvania Sports Betting Hits $730.9 Million in March

Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania sports betting generated $730.9 million in handle during March 2026, marking a decline from the previous year’s $842.9 million. Despite the decreased wagering volume, the market demonstrated resilience with gross gaming revenue reaching $47.86 million, supported by a 6.55% hold percentage. The state collected $16.27 million in tax revenue, reflecting Pennsylvania’s position as one of the highest-taxed sports betting markets. Whereas handle fell 13.3% year-over-year, revenue declined by just 2.7%, indicating improved operator efficiency. FanDuel and DraftKings continued their market dominance, specifically combining for over $455 million in handle and accounting for roughly 62% of total market activity.
Pennsylvania Sports Betting Delivers $730.9M March Handle
The $800.70M handle marked the fifth time in Pennsylvania sports betting history that monthly wagering reached the $800M threshold, ranking fifth all-time across 65 months of legal operations. All five occasions where bettors generated $800M or more occurred within the last six months, demonstrating accelerated market growth.
Operators combined for a hold just below 8%, claiming $63.70M in gross sports betting revenue. This figure represented a 4.1% decrease from twelve months earlier, inasmuch as the previous year’s hold was 1.2 percentage points higher. Bettors utilized $18.10M in promotional credits and bonuses through online sportsbook applications, representing a 14.2% year-over-year increase coinciding with NCAA Tournament activity.
The state levied taxes on $45.60M in adjusted gross revenue, generating $15.50M for state coffers. This marked the third instance in four months where adjusted gross revenue reached at least 70% of gross revenue. First quarter 2024 state tax collections totaled $49.60M, an increase of $4.30M compared to the same period in 2023, while adjusted revenue climbed 9.5% to $145.80M.
Brick-and-mortar sportsbooks recorded a 7.9% hold, producing $3.20M in revenue. However, retail handle dropped 26.4% year-over-year to $41.30M.
Year-over-Year Comparison Reveals Shifting Dynamics
March 2026 handle of $730.9M represented a 13.29% decrease from March 2025’s $842.9M. However, taxable revenue reached $47.86M, climbing 77.07% compared to the prior year’s $27.03M. This divergence between handle and revenue reflected improved operator efficiency through higher hold percentages.
The state collected $17.23M in tax revenue during March 2026, whereas March 2025 generated only $9.73M. This increase occurred despite reduced wagering volume, underscoring Pennsylvania sports betting’s growing fiscal contribution.
March 2025 demonstrated contrasting dynamics. Handle increased 5.26% from March 2024’s $800.7M, yet taxable revenue declined 40.71% from $45.58M to $27.03M. The 2025 performance illustrated volatility in operator profitability even during periods of handle growth.
Pennsylvania joined a broader industry pattern of declining wagering activity. Sportsbook handle across legalized states fell year-over-year for the third consecutive month, with Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Louisiana, and Kansas all posting double-digit decreases. Kansas experienced a 12% February decline after suffering 25% and 19% drops in January and December respectively following Missouri’s market launch.
The sustained handle reduction signaled increased competition among neighboring states rather than diminished consumer interest in Pennsylvania sports betting.
FanDuel and DraftKings Command 62% Market Share
FanDuel, operating through Valley Forge Casino Resort, captured the largest share of Pennsylvania sports betting activity with $243.60M in handle and $18.60M in revenue. The operator maintained approximately 40% market share as of early 2026, sustaining its position as the market leader across both wagering volume and profitability metrics.
DraftKings, partnered with Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, followed with $211.80M in handle and $14.50M in revenue. The combined performance of these two operators accounted for $455.40M in total handle, representing approximately 62% of the state’s March wagering activity.
The revenue differential between the two leaders highlighted FanDuel’s superior hold percentage. Whereas DraftKings processed 87% of FanDuel’s handle volume, it generated only 78% of FanDuel’s revenue. This gap reflected FanDuel’s efficiency in converting bets into gross gaming revenue.
Valley Forge Casino Resort and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows served as the licensed entities enabling online operations for both brands. These partnerships positioned both operators at the forefront of Pennsylvania sports betting, specifically benefiting from established casino infrastructure and regulatory compliance frameworks.
