Portugal Land Based Revenue Grows But Online Catching Up Fast

Overall the gambling industry in Portugal did very well last year both online and land based, in fact revenues for land based casinos saw a rise in revenues rose to €318 million, representing a rise of 3.1% compared to the same period in 2017. The largest growing segment in the business were slot machines and customers driven need to play with a 3.4% rise in revenues over the year.

In the online sector revenues for the first three quarter of 2018 stood at €108.7 million, fourth quarter results for online have not been released by the official regulator for Portuguese gambling. Online gambling in Portugal started with the first licenses being issued in 2016 and notably revenues for the industry are a third of land based gambling with many observers believing that figure will only grow in the coming years.
