Sports Betting in Maine Live by Thanksgiving
The US state of Maine could launch live sports betting by November according to the head of Gambling Control Unit. It comes as the regulator released a revised set of rules that will govern sports betting in the state.
The new rules come after a January public consultation with some 600 comments from locals and now the revised guidelines will now give the public till the 16 June on any further comments and advised amends by lawmakers, should no more changes be made following the deadline they will go to the Office of the Maine Attorney General for final approval and set into how sports betting will be run in the state.
Milt Champion the Head of the Gambling Control Unit said, “I think we have a good product at this point, I just don’t see any rhyme or reason to prolong this anymore. But we’ll see how the comments come out.”
Once the rules are passed to the Attorney Generals Office they have 120 days to approve the rules on gambling which could take it up to end of October with Sports betting in the state going live shortly after.
Champion said, “Best-case scenario, mid-November, we could go live. We could be live by Thanksgiving,” Champion went on to say. “Even if the attorney general took the full 120 days, that still (enables) me to go live before Thanksgiving. What a great present that would be.”
Sports Betting was legalised in the state late spring of this year and Governor Janet Mills signed off the bill on May 2 2022. Maine has given the fourth native American tribes exclusive rights to operate sports Betting in the state.
