UK MPs Want Stronger Controls Towards Online Gambling

The online gambling industry has come under fire again by a cross-party alliance of MPs in the UK which are calling for stronger restrictions.

According to a recent article in the Guardian newspaper the 50-strong group of MPs are due to publish a new list of proposals Tuesday (16th June) to government asking for even more stronger controls and restrictions such as: A total ban on all television and online advertising, an end to all VIP programs for operators high end players, a maximum bet of £2 on each spin for online slots, an independent company checking customers affordability to gamble, stronger checks and controls on gambling software designs and even a new regulator to control online gambling.

The MPs who have previously pushed for the reduction in Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs) stakes to be reduced and also the credit card ban say they have been working for over a year gathering evidence on the harm gambling issues have on customers and now are urging for stronger controls. They are also saying that the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is “not fit for purpose,” complaining that the regulators budget is not enough at £19 million and its failure to be able to adapt to technological change.
