UKGC To Impose Stricter Measures For Online Slot Games

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) have announced their latest measures to protect online slot gamblers with measures including slowing down the spin rate on games, cease using sounds that make losses sound like a win and stop allowing for auto-play on games.

It also said that the UKGC want operators to check on customers each hour of their play to ensure they are not over exposed to the slot games.

According to the report released by the regulator it wants to reduce the rapid expansion of online slot machines, it is estimated that the sector is growing by £100 million a year in the UK in what is currently a £2.2 billion industry.

The rules will also affect bookmakers and casinos that use online slot style games and comes in effect by the 31st October.

Neil McArthur the Gambling Commission chief executive said: “To make online games safer we are introducing a ban on features that speed up play or give the illusion of control over the outcome.

“We are also introducing a ban on auto-play, losses disguised as wins, and slot spin speeds faster than 2.5 seconds. The evidence shows that these features increase the risk of harm to customers.

“This is another important step in making gambling safer and, where the evidence shows that there are other opportunities to do that, we are determined to take them.”

Also announced in the new changes will be the banning of reverse withdrawals, allowing customers who have requested withdrawal to be allowed to play using these funds.
