Vietnam Revenue Surge From Local Gamblers

Vietnamese casino operators reported a surge in revenues for 2019 following the release of results by the countries Ministry of Finance.

Overall the eight operators generated $107.4 million in revenues for the year which represents an increase of 60% from 2018. The increase is due to the fact that the government trialled a programme that for the first time allowed local Vietnamese to gamble in casinos.

One of the casinos, the Corona Resort & Casino which started the trial programme in January 2019 had a total of 105,200 guests for the year of which 47,400 where Vietnamese citizens and as such showed an increase there of 60% in revenues for the period.

It is unclear how the local Vietnamese programme will continue, although showing rises in revenues and hence more tax income for the government many believe that the current situation will continue indefinitely.

There is also now a call from some operators to be able to advertise their business outside of the current restrictions which limit it to their own properties. It does have the backing from the Ministry of Finance who are asking the government to approve this, it is not known if this proposal will be approved by government and what if any timeframe will be given.
