{"id":39091,"date":"2019-08-27T07:45:06","date_gmt":"2019-08-27T07:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gaming-awards.com\/NEWS\/?p=39091"},"modified":"2019-08-27T07:45:06","modified_gmt":"2019-08-27T07:45:06","slug":"pagcor-responds-to-beijing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gaming-awards.com\/NEWS\/pagcor-responds-to-beijing\/","title":{"rendered":"PAGCOR responds to Beijing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-29414\" src=\"https:\/\/gaming-awards.com\/NEWS\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/PAGCOR-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gaming-awards.com\/NEWS\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/PAGCOR-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gaming-awards.com\/NEWS\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/PAGCOR-384x217.jpg 384w, https:\/\/gaming-awards.com\/NEWS\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/PAGCOR.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The head of the offshore gaming regulator for PAGCOR has responded to Chinese allegations that Philippines\u2019 licensed online gaming operators (POGOs) are deliberately targeting residents of China. <\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">Padilla was addressing concerns in Philippine Congress that Beijing \u2014 increasingly troubled by the threat of capital flight and money laundering \u2014 has finally lost its cool with the country\u2019s POGO industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">These comments come following a statement which was issued earlier this month from the Chinese Embassy in Manila, which denounced the POGOs, urging Philippine authorities to \u201ctake concrete and effective measures to prevent and punish\u201d operators that accept customers located in China.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">It was the first time that Beijing had addressed the Philippine online gambling industry, which has thrived since it became licensed and regulated by PAGCOR in 2016.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">They alleged that 100,000 Chinese nationals were now working within the POGO and that this had been done to target the Chinese people.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">However, in relation to the accusations, Padilla suggested that perhaps they had been targeted but that this was more to do with a need for Mandarin speakers.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"background: white; margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">\u201cWe are sure that a lot of players are Chinese, because we all know that there are a lot of Chinese people all over the world,\u201d he said.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif;\">\u201cThey claim that they are working like slaves.
