Pennsylvania<\/p><\/div>\n

Pennsylvania gambling revenue experienced an impressive surge in January 2023, with the leading operators reporting solid results.<\/p>\n

The Keystone State led the way with increased revenue, according to the PGCB (Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board), whose recent data release shows a combined total of $464,488.191 million in revenue from all forms of gambling for January 2023, which is an 18.15% increase from 2022\u2019s figure of $393 million collected during the same period last year.<\/p>\n

The PGCB is an independent state agency regulating slot machines and casino gaming throughout Pennsylvania and overseeing associated tax revenues collected by the Commonwealth through its fourteen casinos across the state\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n

Alongside this impressive growth, tax revenues from all forms of gambling increased, bringing the total to $188.3 million for January 2023- up $30.8 million over 2022\u2019s figures. This impressive increase signifies just how popular gambling has become in Pennsylvania, with more than a dozen operators reporting strong results despite current economic conditions caused by the pandemic restrictions on patrons entering brick-and-mortar casinos.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s look at how the industry achieved this impressive result.<\/p>\n

Gambling Revenue Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n

The latest data released by PGCB shows that while overall gambling revenues were substantial, some areas reported higher than average growth than others. At the top end, iGaming slot and sports wagering reported increases of over 25%, with respective increases of 25.57% and 22%, respectively. Both online platforms have consistently grown throughout 2022 into 2023, thanks mainly to their portability, convenience, and wide range of games.<\/p>\n

Retail slots also experienced healthy gains, posting increases of 20.07%. In contrast, online table game revenues increased even further – up 21 % from previous years. Retail table games generated slightly less growth at 7.27%, while video gaming terminals (VGTs) saw an even lower return but still posted respectable increases at 7.92% for January 2023.<\/p>\n

While these numbers are encouraging overall, interested parties should note that two areas saw decreases – fantasy contests (14.55 %) and iGaming poker (9.49 %) – which may indicate further investigation into why these two segments performed so poorly compared to other gaming options. Further research into these areas may provide better insight into why they underperformed or if market saturation could also play a role here.<\/p>\n

Tax Revenue Increase<\/strong><\/p>\n

January 2023 was a mainly positive month for Pennsylvania\u2019s betting industry; not only did overall revenues continue their upward trend, but the taxes paid to PGCB reflected the healthy gains. All told, taxation earned from all forms of leading casino operations totalled $30.8 million more than what was collected during January 2022 \u2013 moving totals from $157.5 million last year to $188. 3 million this past month alone.<\/p>\n

Leading Operators with Outstanding Results<\/strong><\/p>\n

When looking at specific operators who performed strongly during January 2023, one establishment stood head and shoulders above everyone else \u2013Live! Casino Philadelphia, posting the most robust results at $25.4 million, marking an increase of 51.68%. Following closely behind Valley Forge Casino Resort at $67.9 million, an increase of over 33% and Hollywood Casino York in third place at $8.8 million, a tasty increase of 32.10%.<\/p>\n
