They gave the two signals different amounts of orbital angular momentum to differentiate them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>According to the scientists, their technique in principle allows an infinite number of channels, potentially solving congestion problems in the electromagnetic spectrum.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The scientists said they mounted their public demonstration to allay doubts their technique was possible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>It&#8217;s exactly the same place that Galileo first demonstrated his telescope to the authorities in Venice, 400 years ago,&#8221; Professor Bo Thide of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics told the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>The team first proposed the idea in theory in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They were not convinced at all; they could see the moons of Jupiter but they said, &#8216;They must be inside the telescope, it can&#8217;t possibly be like that&#8217;,&#8221; said Prof Thide.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To some extent we have felt the same (disbelief from the community), so we said, &#8216;Let&#8217;s do it, let&#8217;s demonstrate it for the public.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To create wave with different orbital angular momentum, the scientists split normal standard satellite dish-shaped transmitter along its radius and separated the two edges to create a corkscrew and twist the two signals different amounts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new twist on radio waves could massively boost the capacity of Wifi and other wireless networks. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":5592,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5590","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-macau"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.3 -
