Pansy Ho, the chairperson and co-executive director of MGM China Holdings, has disposed of her entire holding in MGM Resorts International through a $140.1 million share sale. The strategic exit marks a significant shift in her investment portfolio, as Ho sold more than 3.06 million MGM Resorts shares between May 28th and June 3rd. During this five-day trading period, her long position in Pansy Ho MGM Resorts fell to 0 percent, down from 0.81 percent on May 28th. The transactions were executed across five separate sales, with share prices ranging from $42.4000 to $50.2448 per share. This development raises questions about the implications for MGM China, where MGM Resorts currently holds 55.95 percent while Ho and her controlled companies maintain a 22.49 percent stake.<\/p>\n

Pansy Ho Completes $140M Share Disposal Across Five Trading Days<\/h4>\n

The disposal unfolded across consecutive trading sessions, with specific transaction details revealing the scale of the exit.\u00a0On May 28, Ho sold 1 million shares at an average price of $42.40 per share.\u00a0The following day saw 600,000 shares disposed at $43.50.\u00a0Trading resumed on June 1 with 400,000 shares sold at $50.24, followed by 334,784 shares on June 2 at $48.88, and concluded with 731,373 shares on June 3 at $48.09.<\/p>\n

The combined transactions involved more than 3.06 million shares, generating approximately $140.14 million.\u00a0Consequently, Ho’s long position in MGM Resorts declined from 1.20 percent to zero.<\/p>\n

MGM Resorts stock had closed at $47.51 in Friday trading on Nasdaq.\u00a0MGM China’s stock responded to the news, closing Monday trading in Hong Kong at HKD 10.69, down 6.39 percent from Friday’s close.<\/p>\n

Ho has gradually reduced her ownership in MGM Resorts over several years.\u00a0Her stake stood at 3.13 percent in November 2019 before disposals in 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2026.\u00a0MGM China stated the stake formed part of Ho’s personal investment portfolio since 2011, with portions sold over the years for investment and treasury management reasons.\u00a0Shares were liquidated when prices and volumes were conducive.<\/p>\n

People Inc.’s Acquisition Bid Triggers Strategic Exit<\/h4>\n

The timing of Pansy Ho’s share disposal coincided with People Inc.’s bid to acquire MGM Resorts.\u00a0On Monday, June 1, Barry Diller’s media conglomerate submitted a non-binding proposal to MGM Resorts’ board, offering to purchase all outstanding shares not already owned for $48.30 per share in cash.\u00a0People Inc. held 26.1 percent of MGM Resorts’ common stock at the time of the offer.<\/p>\n

The bid values MGM Resorts at approximately $18 billion, including roughly $6.4 billion in net debt.\u00a0This represents a 24.1 percent premium to the volume-weighted average price for the 30 trading days ending May 29, 2026, and more than a 30 percent premium over the 90-day average.\u00a0People Inc. plans to acquire the remaining 73.9 percent of shares it does not own.<\/p>\n

Diller stated his company began investing in MGM nearly six years ago because “it represented a rare kind of business: one with real world assets that AI cannot easily replicate or disintermediate and exceptional digital growth opportunities”.\u00a0People Inc., previously known as IAC, first invested in MGM in 2020 with a 12 percent stake.<\/p>\n

Following the acquisition announcement, Seaport Research Partners identified MGM China and MGM Osaka as potential “non-core” assets under People-controlled ownership.\u00a0Accordingly, analyst reports noted MGM China could become a closely watched asset if the transaction proceeds.<\/p>\n

What This Means for MGM China’s Future<\/h4>\n

Analysts have identified MGM Resorts’ stake in MGM China as a strategic asset that could face scrutiny under new ownership.\u00a0MGM Resorts holds 55.95 percent of MGM China as of December 31, 2025, while Pansy Ho and her controlled companies maintain 22.49 percent.\u00a0CBRE Equity Research estimated the stake’s value at approximately $3.3 billion, with the Macau unit contributing roughly $316 million in annual cash flow, including $201 million in dividends and $115 million in management fees.<\/p>\n

Seaport Research Partners noted MGM China has significantly outperformed the Macau market over recent years and retained more market share than expected.\u00a0If the acquisition proceeds, People Inc. may divest all or part of the MGM China stake to help finance the proposed acquisition, fund the Osaka equity commitment, or return equity to minority partners.<\/p>\n

Pansy Ho emerged as a potential buyer, possibly alongside financial partners.\u00a0Galaxy Entertainment Group and Sands China also possess the financial capacity to participate in such a transaction, though regulatory approval from Macau authorities would be required.\u00a0A sale to an incumbent concessionaire could temper competitive intensity through leaner promotions, lower player reinvestment, and reduced commissions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
