Indian casino operator Delta Corp has reported a consolidated net loss of \u20b9106.41 crore (approximately US$11.2 million) for the September quarter, marking its second consecutive quarterly loss after the company booked a further provision for Goods and Services Tax (GST) liabilities tied to adjudication of earlier tax demands.<\/p>\n
The loss for the July\u2013September period compares with a consolidated profit of \u20b925.10 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. However, the result represents a substantial improvement over the preceding quarter, when Delta Corp posted a loss of \u20b9212 crore (US$22.3 million) driven by a GST provision of \u20b9306.73 crore.<\/p>\n
For the September quarter, the company set aside an additional \u20b9137 crore for GST, interest, and penalties, taking its first-half provision to approximately \u20b9444 crore. The provisions follow adjudication orders issued by tax authorities in connection with the company’s casino operations, including a differential GST demand of \u20b9116.43 crore along with a penalty of \u20b937.11 crore. Of the demand, \u20b979.32 crore relates to what authorities classify as actionable claims, while the remainder pertains to so-called mixed supplies covering items such as food, beverages, and liquor served onboard the company’s offshore casinos.<\/p>\n
Operational performance also weakened during the quarter. Revenue from operations declined 12.8 percent year-on-year to \u20b91.59 billion (\u20b9159 crore), with casino revenue falling 13.4 percent and operating margins narrowing. The decline reflects ongoing headwinds across the company’s gaming business, which has been reshaped by India’s tax regime for gaming activities.<\/p>\n
The provisions stem from a long-running dispute over how GST applies to gaming operations. In May 2026, the Supreme Court upheld the government’s authority to levy a retrospective 28 percent GST on the full face value of bets placed on online gaming platforms, a ruling that triggered sharp declines in the share prices of gaming companies, including Delta Corp, which fell approximately 16 percent on the day of the decision.<\/p>\n
While the company has provisioned for GST liabilities linked to actionable claims, management has not recognized a provision for the separate mixed-supply allegations concerning food, beverages, and liquor. The company has stated its intention to contest the mixed-supply demand through available legal channels, maintaining that these items do not constitute taxable mixed supplies in the manner asserted by the authorities.<\/p>\n
The results present a mixed picture for the operator. On one hand, the sequential narrowing of the loss from \u20b9212 crore to \u20b9106 crore suggests the immediate financial impact of the adjudicated demands is becoming clearer, reducing a source of uncertainty for investors.
