Rumours have it in Macau that sports betting could be coming to casinos soon, the reason for the excitement is that recently Macau SLOT Co. Ltd which has the exclusive rights to betting on football and basketball had its license renewed for three more years BUT had its exclusivity removed.

That had observers pondering the reason for this and many believe that the government is considering offering the feature to third parties also and as such allowing casinos in Macau the ability to offer sports book facilities.

With license concessions in Macau are due up in 2022 but expected there will be extended till possibly 2025 as the COVID-19 pandemic has devastated casino operations it is thought amongst insiders that sports betting within casinos could help the recovery.

No official announcement has been made and it is understood officials are looking into the possibility at this time and not expected to announce anything this year but sports betting in Macau casinos is a strong possibility.

Sports betting has seen a huge increase since the pandemic started and the latest figures on global sports betting revenues in 2019 has the market valued at $85 billion. Macau operators know that sports betting itself would not generate huge incomes as they would most certainly have to work with a sports betting concession, but the attraction to customers and the length of time spent with their resorts adds the value to sports betting within their venues.
