Ohio unveiling its FIRST casino

A boost to the gaming community

OHIO’S first casino is hoping to boost the tourism factor within the state. It’s been a long time coming and the state is ready to reap the benefits of the debut casino. “This is a pivotal time in our community,” said Len Komoroski, president of the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers and chairman of the Positively Cleveland travel-tourism agency.

The Horseshow casino is being unveiled in mid-May and is set to be a positive experience for those involved. A staggering $2 billion is set to be maximized in new attractions for the site.

The Associated Press reported that the casino won’t follow in the footsteps of Las Vegas.

“We have a lot of national tourist attractions we’ll be able to draw from,” Marcus Glover, casino general manager, said earlier during a construction tour of the casino.

The first phase of the $350 million casino will open in the renovated Higbee department store. Toledo’s casino opens several weeks later, with those in Cincinnati and Columbus to follow.

The casino has said it initially will pull most customers from within 150 miles. The statewide referendum which approved casino gambling in 2009 was fueled in part by the promise of jobs.
