Alvin Chau Trial Postponed till 19 September

The trial in Macau against Alvin Chau accused of some 200 charges of illegal gambling activities, running a criminal syndicate, money laundering and fraud along with 20 other defendants is to be postponed until 19 September following the absence of half the accused.

The trial was set to begin late last week but will now start later this month with the former Chairman of Suncity Group as the ring leader of the operation prosecutors say in what is claimed to be an illegal gambling operation upwards of $100 billion.

Alvin Chau was the founder and head of the largest junket operator in Macau at Suncity Group until his arrest in December 2021 following a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Chinese region of Wenzhou claiming Chau was operating illegal gambling activities on mainland China.
