Aspers Swansea set to close?

The COO of Aspers Richard Noble said: “We have undertaken a comprehensive review of the Swansea site which has determined that the continued operation of Aspers in Swansea does not seem to be commercially viable.

Swansea set to close after review says it not commercially viable

“We opened in Swansea in September 2007. Swansea was one of the UK’s eight cities to be granted a small casino license under legislation passed in 2005.

“For five years now we have eagerly awaited the opportunity to bid for the license which would have allowed us to operate a much more viable and enhanced customer experience with a wider offer than a typical casino.

“Unfortunately, the license has still not been issued for tender.”

He said the business, which had 7,000 people sign up as members when it opened, has also been battling “extremely challenging trading conditions”.

“Combined, these factors have led us to the difficult decision to consult on the closure of the Swansea site,” added Mr Noble.

It is not known how many people currently work at the venue, but in 2010 there were 147 staff employed there.

“If the decision is made to close the business, we will work closely with those affected to offer redeployment opportunities,” said Mr Noble.
