Casino Reported 25% Of Staff Infected By Covid-19

The dangers of improper safety protocols have come to the forefront following a casino found that 25% of its staff was found to be COVID-19 positive after the entire staff were tested.

As casinos reopen around the world all have to follow safety protocols and social distancing but it appears those were lacking when The Princess Casino (part of the Princess Casino Group) in Belize had to close down following the major outbreak within its staff.

A Belize Government spokesperson said, “All positive persons are in complete isolation and contact tracing is ongoing.” While the contact tracing takes place, the Princess Casino will remain closed, and proper sanitization of the facilities is currently being carried out. It is also worth noting that 10 of the infected persons had received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, and they all are asymptomatic.”

Reports from patrons said that it was impossible to social distance as many players were playing several gaming machines at once and sanitising was impossible. Also another gambler said that “it is a casino with people moving about, there was little social distancing.”

Under local government controls cash was not supposed to be used and transferred to virtual tickets, however it was reported by several patrons that older gamblers were not able to do this and passed cash around to people to do so.

One local gambler said: “Because there are a lot of elderly people in there, most of them can’t or don’t want to get up, so they end up exchanging tickets and money with several different people — whoever is in sight to assist them with cashing out or ticket purchasing.”
