China Warns Countries To STOP Advertising Gambling

The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) has again said that it is planning to expand the list of countries/destinations that target Chinese nationals for gambling and ban them from travel to its population.

However this was announced back in August 2020 and no names were given at that time but the threat to do so and again this time the Ministry has said it will expand those destinations that will be banned because they focus on attracting their nationals for gambling.

The Ministry statement said: said: “In order to better regulate the tourism market and safeguard the lives and property of Chinese citizens, the blacklist system was established through concerted efforts of multiple departments.”

Even thou destinations have again not be specifically mentioned it is understood those locations would include the Philippines, Cambodia and Thailand along with more locations in Southeast Asia.

How specifically the MCT will enforce these bans on locations and if a Chinese national travels to a permitted location then moves to a banned one, what would be the punishment for them has not been made clear.

Gambling consultants based around Southeast Asia believe it is more of a warning to other countries to cease and desist more than an enforceable act.
