Dutch Self-Exclusion Register Back up and Running after Temporary Fault

The Netherlands’ native gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has confirmed that the countries gaming self-exclusion platform is once again operational. Earlier in the week, CRUKS (Centraal Register UitsluitingKansspelen), the mechanism used for capturing those wishing to self-exclude from both online and land-based casino activities, had temporarily malfunctioned.

It was confirmed yesterday that the reason for the fault was due to an issue with DigiD, a Dutch identification tool used to digitally display personal details. Although DigiD’s breakdown halted the registration process, operators were still able to verify whether players were present on the CRUKS list. Since the introduction of the self-exclusion list in October last year, KSA has insisted that all players, whether entering a virtual or bricks-and-mortar gambling environment, must have their details cross-referenced against CRUKS. Nevertheless, there have been growing reports that operators are not consistently performing these checks.

Those already enrolled on CRUKS were also unable to edit or update any private information during the list’s temporary suspension, such as the terms of their self-exclusion duration. When operational, individuals are able to set their registration length from a minimum of six months, all the way through to 99 years. Family members of players, alongside operators who have witnessed harmful gambling behaviours, are also able to enrol individuals on CRUKS.

The resumption of the self-exclusion service was met with the following statement from KSA, ‘’Due to a malfunction with DigiD, it was temporarily not possible to register in CRUKS, to consult your registration, or to change your registration. Gaming providers were able to carry out CRUKS checks. The fault has now been resolved. Registering in CRUKS is possible again’’.
