Florida Sports Betting In Limbo Till Supreme Court Decision

Following the ruling by the US District Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit that both the Florida government and the Seminole Tribe of Florida can start sports betting once again where is the state and the tribe in re-launching the app?

On November 1st 2021 the tribe launched the sports betting app that was granted by the state in an exclusive deal, but on the 21st November DC Circuit Judge Dabney L. Friedrich ruled that the deal between the state and tribe was beyond the scope of tribal law and so the app was shutdown and has been ever since.

The tribes and the state government agreed a deal that would see revenue sharing over the first five years raking in at least $2.5 billion to state coffers in a deal that would last 30 years.

Although the tribe and the state government have won the latest legal fight it is expected that more challenges and appeals will materialise and so avoiding another launch and then closure it looks like both parties have decided against a re-launch for the immediate future.

It is expected both the Magic City Casino in Miami and the Bonita Springs Poker Room are preparing to oppose the ruling made last week and there is a lot to fight for, with a state population of 22 million and estimates that the sports betting market there could be between $8 and $12 billion annually once matured the legal fight is set to go all the way to the Supreme Court and many observers believe not until then will sports betting will be live once again, if that is by the Seminole Tribe of Florida is yet to be seen.
