Philippine Lawmakers Call For Ban On All Online Gambling

Two Senators from the Philippines has called on the countries President Ferdinand Marcos Jr to outlaw all online gambling companies after last week’s law enforcement raid on a licensed online gaming operator that is accused of human trafficking.

According to local reports almost 3,000 Filipino and overseas nationals were rescued from the business of Xinchuang Network Technology, south of Manila.

Xinchuang holds an operating license but the Senators say the business is a front human trafficking and crypto scams, the allegations the company denise.

Senator Risa Hontiveros told The Straits Times, “Marcos should ban Pogos now. Not only have Pogos made our country a playground for their criminal activities, they also owe our government money in billions of unpaid taxes.”

The two Senators have been investigating online gambling operators in the country for over a year now and say that the regulator the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation are unaware of the scale of human trafficking by licensed companies and are not doing enough checks on those involved.
